Breeders, on the other hand, have had to contend with soaring energy and feed costs so a new and more lucrative market was welcomed. The thing is, hairdressers only want long feathers. Rather than see the small end of a cape go to waste, Chevron has clipped a patch of the smaller feathers from capes dyed for its hair market, and those “cape tops” offer you great value! Anyone who ties a few hackled flies knows that the patch near the head of a neck cape goes bald first – these are essentially that patch. The hackles on these tops are predominantly for size 16 and smaller. Many of these tops are from the very best hackle farms in the USA, some are Chevron’s own production; all have very supple stems and high barb count.
