Description I am delighted and proud to offer what I consider to be the finest CDC plumes I have ever tied with – from SWISS CDC of Riazzino, Switzerland. The company was established in 2002 by three fly fishermen who have a passion for and years of experience in tying with CDC between them. As a matter of principle, Swiss CDC only offer duck CDC taken from winter feathers. They made this decision on the basis of the significantly better quality. Ducks breed less in the winter, which means that the appearance of the feathers is considerably better. In the warmer seasons, the breeding ducks are subjected to heat and even greater burdens. The result is of such superior quality that it has become a firm favourite of world-famous fly tiers, including Leon Links, Jean-Paul Dessaigne and Oliver Edwards. For those of you that are aware of the grading of CDC by Hans Weilenmann, these are Type 1 feathers – supple stems with masses of barbs coming off the stem at a 60 degree angle. “CDC ULTRA SELECT XL” Pack size: 1g – contains 80 – 90 feathers Feather length: 4 cm – 8 cm Please note: every breeding duck only yields 2 or 3 particularly long CDC feathers in the winter. These feathers are hand selected at the same time as the “Super Select” feathers. The extra long XL and Super Select feathers are dyed in batches of up to 50g. The difficulty in obtaining even small amounts of these feathers can mean that every colour and hue is not always available.
